Gemini

Gemini is another gorgeous Bernese coming out of my mom’s breeding program. I am thoroughly familiar with Gemini’s mother and father, as well as her detailed pedigree. It gives me great confidence to know exactly what’s gone into producing such a fine dog.

Gemini is playful, fun and energetic. She loves affection and has no interest in personal space: the closer she can get to you, the better. She is an amazing girl with very good intuition. She adores everyone who works at the kennel. When we go for car rides, she rests her head on my shoulder and will fall asleep like that. She loves children and greeting the families that come to adopt her puppies. She is playful but very calm and gentle in the house. She will lie on her dog bed all day and sleep, but outside she’ll run around and play like a pup. It’s a good thing Gemini loves long walks, because she also loves her food. She is one of the little pigs of the kennel and we do have to watch her weight.

Gemini’s mother is Bailey who came from British Columbia and has Slovakian heritage. Bailey has a lovely personality—so gentle, yet playful. She has retired now into a pet home, but was always great with puppies. My mom says Bailey helped raise and train all her new pups, teaching them right from wrong. Of all my mom’s dogs, I probably heard her talk about Bailey the most. I know it was hard to part with her.

Gemini’s father was Daiko, my Canadian Champion male, imported from Belgium, along with his sister Dyne. I did a huge amount of research before buying Daiko and Dyne and have great respect for their breeder. Daiko’s ancestors were checked for hips and elbows many generations back, and all rated the equivalent of excellent or good in OFA terms. Further, all ancestors’ elbows have been rated as normal.

Daiko became a Canadian champion before his first birthday—over the course of three weekends. The first weekend, he won best of breed. The second, he also won best of breed. The third, he won best of breed, best puppy in group and came fourth in the adult working group (when he was only a puppy!).

He had an incredible temperament, and was very intelligent. He excelled in his obedience class, and I only had to show him things once and he knew what to do. He was just a big, loveable bear who always tried to please us.

Sadly, Daiko passed away recently at the age of nine. Although I have many dogs and love them all, he was very special. Many of my dogs retire into someone else’s home, but Daiko stayed with us until the end, and I’m still grieving his loss.
