Aspen

Aspen was a very lucky find from a breeder in Colorado.  She is a fine example of the breed—beautiful, loving, and affectionate. Of all my Berners, Aspen probably takes the longest to warm up to new people. However, once she does, she becomes very attached.  She came to SwissRidge when she was a year old, and was somewhat slower to adjust than other girls from the same breeder (Harmony, Hazel and Pearl).

Aspen is coming around nicely, and is one of the sweetest and calmest of my Berners.  She never jumps or barks, and has very good manners.  She is extremely gentle when she plays with my small dogs, and I trust her completely.  More independent than some Berners, she likes to go off and play by herself or sit and watch the others romp. She joins in when she feels like it. She is fine being home alone, and relaxed in the house.

I am very careful about the sources of my Bernese, and have had a long relationship with Aspen’s breeder, who shares my attention to pedigree and personality.   Aspen’s father is from the United States and her mother from the Netherlands.  Her lines also trace back to Switzerland, as well as a kennel in Canada from which my mom and I purchased one of our first Bernese Mountain Dogs.

I know the lines and kennels behind Aspen very well, and she has an excellent pedigree of health-tested ancestors.  I am always happy with a great mix of European and Canadian lines, and a long record to know there is no inbreeding to put the lines at risk.
