Rogue

Rogue is very much her own dog. I call her an independent soul. She’s very quiet, but not shy. She loves to watch everyone else play and socialize but tends to observe rather than participate. If a dog comes up and invites Rogue to play, she seems to engage to be polite, but soon goes back to her comfy spot to sit and watch.

She has a calm, gentle, loving, submissive nature. When people come around, most of the other Berners will press in for attention, but Rogue hangs back until all the other dogs disperse, and then moves in for some pats. She’s not timid, just laid back, and also extremely patient. You can do anything to her and she accepts it calmly. I can tell she is going to produce some very relaxed puppies.

Rogue came to me from a colleague and good friend, Pat, who has been breeding Bernese for nearly 20 years. Pat takes great pride in her work, and strives to produce that perfect family dog with a long line of genetically cleared and tested parents.

Rogue’s mother is Patchouli, who has been cleared by the

OVC for hip or elbow dysplasia. Further, Patchouli’s hips were evaluated by PennHip, one of the best hip testing devices on the market today, which tests the laxity of the hip. Patchouli’s laxity profile ranking is in the 99th percentile, which means she has better hips than over 99 per cent of the Bernese that have been tested. I have never seen a Bernese with hips this good, and it bodes well for her daughters. Patchouli is a sweet, gentle, loving and healthy dog.

Rogue’s father is Cosmo, who is on the smaller side for a male, but stocky, well-built, handsome and healthy. He has OFA “good” hips and elbows. The PennHip testing put him in the 90th percentile for hips, so his hips are better than 90 per cent of Bernese tested. Cosmo comes from a long line of genetically health-tested dogs with solid hips and elbows. Both his parents where imported from Poland, and their ancestors have sound hips as well.

With such a solid pedigree behind her, I believe Rogue will add much to the SwissRidge breeding program. I’m pleased that she’s a little smaller than some Berners, because smaller dogs typically have a longer lifespan, regardless of breed.
